Granted, we magazine folk are prone to hyperbole, but in this instance it's more than warranted. BB Social Dining, the delightful three-storey eatery that sprang up last month in DIFC, is a welcome, if unusual addition to the area's bougie restaurant scene. Why? Well, for a start, its intimate vibe has far more in common with NYC or Soho than Dubai, it's fuelled by chatty service staff with a sense of humour, and the barmen can do more than a few fandangled things with a spherical ice cube and some bubbles. Oh - and did we mention the food? It's good. Like - next-level good. And in Dubai, that's no mean feat.
Tucked away on Happiness Street in DIFC, then, is a seemingly very apt address for it, since we can't imagine anyone exiting BB's doors without being at least a little bit happier - and heavier. But, hey - that's fine. The Chicken Bang Bang alone makes having to unbutton your jeans worth it. As does the cauliflower popcorn, habibti bao (softshell crab, watercress and jalapeno dressing) and super green hummus.
It's also managed to vault that tricky bridge between cool, non-cheesy date spot, buzzy, electric bar that doesn't feel like a pick-up joint, and chilled-out weekend lunch destination where you'd be happy to take, say, a particularly fussy mate. For what it's worth, we can also see ourselves having a big birthday dins there, perhaps on the secluded table on the mezzanine.
Fundamentally, it just nails two crucial things. Good vibes and good food. BB - we're big fans. And we'll be back.
