“I meditate daily,” Chloë Grace Moretz muses in front of a buzzing backdrop of photographers, glam squad and a 1950s Cadillac for her latest high-end fashion campaign. We don’t blame her. “Just being home with my family and dogs is the most important respite for me,” she reveals, offering her easy California-girl smile.
To set the scene, the Kick Ass actress is shooting an exclusive fashion shoot with luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo. Grazia looks on as the 21-year-old starlet playfully poses beside the Insta-worthy pool in Palm Springs and attempts croquet in heels from the luxury label's upcoming collection.
So, what are Chloë’s key ingredients for a sun-drenched minibreak? “Great people, great music, and great food,” she replies quickly. “For me, it’s about the company you’re with over the destination. If you’re with people you love, you can be anywhere in the world and it feels like home.”
For the most of us, our shoot location is a desert oasis on life’s bucket list. For Chloë, who was raised in LA, it’s a holiday spot she’s been visiting since she was young. Perhaps that’s why she comes across so effortlessly cool and confident.
A Grazia girl will know the difficulty of precise packing for an out-of-town trip. Not Chloë, who says simply: “Sunglasses and shoes are definitely my statement pieces. Jimmy Choo has always made me feel flirty while still being comfortable in myself. I loved shooting the tobacco suede pumps. They are the perfect casual, yet sexy, weekend shoe for dressing up a dinner.” What about the bag? “I definitely need it to be a cross-body, just in case the night leads to dancing,” she continues. The night always leads to dancing, Chlo!
Despite the star’s personal life making headlines earlier this month – she called it quits with Brooklyn Beckham after an-off two year relationship – Chloë hopes her four scheduled film releases this year will overtake the gossip. In all of these she portrays strong, female roles. Here’s why: “Growing up, I was raised by a single mother and my four brothers. From the get-go I was bound to have a strong opinion of who I wanted to be in this world, which translated to who I am in this industry. I always wanted to be the one taking charge instead of riding shotgun,” she explains with characteristic candour.
It’s impressive to listen to Chloë detail her 15-year long career in Tinseltown – and it soon becomes clear the actress is not a young woman to be messed with: “My drive comes from my deep love of acting and film-making. I’ve always wanted to be the best I could be at my craft and I have found that always vocalising my opinion, while simultaneously listening, has gotten me farther than just having one stance,” she reveals.
And unlike some celebrities, porcelain-skinned Chloë tells us it’s “important” to her not to have her social media accounts run by a member of her team. “Instagram and Twitter are platforms for me to engage with my fans and have my words spoken directly from me. I’ve found it really exciting to share my love for photography,” she enthuses on the curation of artfully shot insights into her life.
Facing the future, and putting her split from David and Victoria’s 19-year-old son firmly behind her, Chloë smiles and says, “I’m excited to try my hand at different jobs in this industry – from producing to co-directing.” Watch out, world. Chloë’s coming.
