Art Dubai goes through a programme switch-up due to Coronavirus

Keep calm and carry on (in a manner that aligns with health and safety regulations)

With the worrying news of the  Covid-19 outbreak (the scientific name for Coronavirus), 2020 saw a lot of shows, concerts and events postponed, rescheduled, or completely cancelled across the world.

Art Dubai nearly joined that list, but rather has decided to reshuffle the schedule at the 14th edition, due to take place from March 25-28. Ensuring the appropriate health and safety measures are taken, Art Dubai will host a new local-focused programme that will run on the dates originally scheduled for the international fair.

Amongst the virus frenzy, the organisers shared in a statement that they are maintaining the goal of engaging with Dubai's art community and are upholding "the commitment of support to our local community."

The new programme will offer local and regional galleries, talks, and events as well as a few of the existing Art Dubai programmes. "Given the essential role the fair plays in promoting local and regional artists, we have made the decision to stage a programme tailored to the local cultural community instead, including existing fair programme contributors and thought-leaders," said the organisers.

While optimistic about Art Dubai still going ahead, they are being cautious (naturally) and are urging the public to be careful, saying "With Dubai deploying the strictest medical and hygiene protocols, we will welcome international visitors in March, recommending that individuals follow advice from the authorities of their resident countries. "

Covid-19 has killed 3,000 people so far, and affected over 100,000 worldwide.
