Even if your only real interaction with art was hearing about that banana taped to a wall, you’d still be familiar with renowned contemporary artists Andy Warhol and Banksy.
Just last year, Banksy’s Devolved Parliament made headlines for being sold for close to Dhs36 million – a record price for a Banksy painting… probably owing to the fact that it depicted members of British parliament as chimpanzees in the midst of the heated Brexit debacle.
Now, in its first exhibition of the year, Sotheby’s Dubai will present works by these artists and more. Expect to see pop artist Robert Indiana’s well-known Love sculpture, Banksy’s Happy Choppers, Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara’s whimsical depictions of youth, and a whole host of other inspirational pieces by international artists.
“We are starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a curated exhibition that brings something different from our international sales directly to the doorsteps of collectors in Dubai,” said head of Sotheby’s Dubai, Katia Nounou Boueiz.
- 'Show & Tell: On View' will be taking place from Sunday February 9 until Thursday February 13. The exhibition will be open from 10am until 7pm daily, and is free to attend.
