Creative hub The Dot wants to shine the spotlight on Arab culture in 2020 and beyond

Just opened at Warehouse 22 on Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz, The Dot, Dubai’s latest creative hub, is on a mission to build awareness of the diversity of Arab cultures.

The brainchild of The Confused Arab and cultural marketing agency Karta, The Dot describes itself as a “gathering place for all curious and creative minds interested in the current changes happening in the Arab world and its diaspora”.

First on the bill is “Arab Identities Through Spaces: Are We All “Arabs The Same Way Everywhere?”

Taking place on 25 January at 4pm, the event will see film director Abdullah Al Kaabi; French-Syrian journalist Leila Al Aouf; Canadian-Palestinian Nike Middle East communication manager Riham Aboura; and Sofiane Si Merabet, French-Algerian founder of The Confused Arab and cultural agency Karta take to the stage to discuss the topic in hand.

It also brings to fruition Si Merabet’s desire to give his different art installations a home.

"A dot doesn’t have to be the end of something. On the contrary. It helps you locate your next destination on a map. In Arabic, it brings a new sense to words. We designed the dot as a  community space to discuss and challenge perceptions and identities of the Arab world in all its diversity from native societies to diasporas," he adds.
