In true Middle Eastern fashion, garnering envious glances and prestigious awards from across the globe is the Abu Dhabi Founder’s Memorial.
The landmark has been recognised as nothing short of a design marvel, having recently nabbed the Collaboration of Design + Art Award 2019, a global celebration of projects that successfully blend commissioned art into interior, architectural, or public spaces.
Aptly named ‘The Constellation’, the artwork and national tribute is a series of glimmering geometric ingots suspended like burnished raindrops arrested in the process of falling-as if they’ve been caught mid-descent. And very deliberately too; the droplets form a three-dimensional portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, experienced differently from each viewing point around the memorial.
The news follows the crowning of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Qasr Al Watan as some of the best landmarks in the world, which is further proof – if proof were needed – that the Middle East is truly the region to be in.
