7 fashion podcasts you need to download this weekend

Grazia's dishing the fashion goss

There’s a certain comforting closeness that comes with listening to a podcast through your headphones, a feeling that’s been seriously picked up by listeners worldwide, as the popularity of podcasting has risen over the past decade.

And with the stringent, albeit slowly relaxing, measures in place for social distancing, we’re not proud to admit to feeling smug about an extra, educational voice in our ear.

With that in mind, Grazia has put together the ultimate list of fashion podcasts so you can spice up your streetwear, let out your inner DIY-nut or just expand your knowledge of the fashion world on the daily. A playlist that Carrie Bradshaw would be proud to have flowing from her flip-phone.

Dressed: The History of Fashion

Cassidy Zachary and April Calahan are the brilliant creators behind Dressed: The History of Fashion, co-hosting the podcast that dives into the rich history behind the clothes we wear. As they investigate the evolution of styled sunglasses to carnival couture, Japanese kimonos to American street chic, they expose the many multi-layered social and cultural issues that lie at the foundations of fashion.

Fashion No Filter

Besties Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley come together in this podcast to spill the tea on the fashion world. Each episode is a mini exposé on a topic inherent to the industry, with insider knowledge from regular special guests. And with their recent conversation opening up the important intersections of fashion and race, what better time to start listening to them?

Creative conversations with Suzy Menkes

Lucky for us, Suzy Menkes, famed British journalist and fashion critic, set up this podcast during lockdown where she holds in-depth interviews with the industry’s most influential designers, thinkers and executives. From Maria Grazia Chiuri to Michael Kors, her interviewees are some of the best in the business who are sure to inspire and stimulate your inner designer.

Fashion Victims

The self-acclaimed podcast where fashion news and gossip collide, Fashion Victims brings you sleepover vibes alongside high couture Fashion Week. Luke Meagher and Darnell Jamal are amazingly able to navigate the ups and downs of celebrity style at the same time as commenting on poignant contemporary issues, including tokenism in the industry and the important of diverse voices.

Fashion Hags

The Fashion Hags make it very clear that they are not a normal podcast. Oh no. They’re a cool podcast hosted by the coolest kids at Fashion Design School, Abby, Evan and Katie. The trio eloquently express their love-hate relationship for all things fashion with more than a dah of their perfectly timed humour.

Unravel: The Fashion podcast

Unravel: A Fashion Podcast was started by scholar Jasmine Helm and textile conservator Dana Goodin in 2015 as a way to fill a gap in the canon and lexicon of fashion. Bringing on fashion and history scholar Joy Davis, they provided accessible and much-needed education about the conversations that matter.

Bonus: The new Unravel Resource Guide provides a growing database to support Black, Indigenous and POC fashion, beauty, health, history and social justice creators, scholars and advocates.

Sew and Tell

Three sewists from different backgrounds - fashion, indie sewing and theatre - come together to discuss topics and trends and chat with big names from the sewing world. This is not one any DIY-enthusiasts want to miss out on as Meg Healy, Amanda Carestio and Kate Zaynard share their knowledge, insight and inspiration on the sewing community and the latest up-to-date news and trends in style.
