Billie Eilish has been named Global Artist of the Year at the first-ever Apple Music Awards.
Eilish’s album When we fall asleep, Where do we go? was an instant worldwide sensation and was Apple Music’s most-played album of the year, with more than a billion streams.
Billie also performed a live-streamed concert at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park in Cupertino, California during the event, and shared the award with her brother Finneas O'Connell, who co-wrote and produced the album along with her.
Lizzo was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year, while Old Town Road by Lil Nas X was awarded Song of the Year.
With each of these awards hand-selected by Apple Music’s global editorial team, Apple has called its awards "a celebration of the best and boldest musicians of 2019 and the enormous impact they have had on global culture this year."
“The Apple Music Awards are designed to recognize the passion, energy and creativity of the world’s favourite artists," Oliver Schusser, Vice President of Apple Music said of the accolades.
