Blue Ivy Carter has just won her first music award

As the offspring of two of music’s biggest talents, it’s no surprise that Blue Ivy Carter has more musical muster than most seven-year-old children.

However, unlike most seven-year-olds, she’s just won the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the Soul Train Awards for her lyrics on Beyoncé’s track Brown Skin Girl. As you do.

The song which also features Blue’s vocals, beat five rivals including Juice, by Theron Thomas, Sam Sumser, Sean Small, Eric Frederic and Lizzo, and appears on 2019’s The Lion King: The Gift.

The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award, often referred to as the Record of the Year, has honoured John Legend, Alicia Keys and Blue’s auntie Solange in the past, so it’s pretty much safe to assume the nipper has a glittering career in music ahead of her.

She is Queen Bey’s daughter after all.
