Imagine a club where you'd find Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Calvin Klein, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Salvador Dalí and Jackie Kennedy Onassis lounging in the VIP area. Well that was just a quiet evening at the iconic '70s New York night spot Studio 54. "When you walked through those doors, you were in another world," sighed one reveller. "Everybody that was there was a star."
A new documentary draws back the velvet rope on the truth behind the glitterball-strewn, sequin-dipped legend in the words of Studio 54 Co-Founder Ian Schrager, who's since been credited with inventing the boutique hotel, with success stories such as The Standard, The Edition and Public in New York to hs name.
Cinema Akil will be screening Studio 54 on Wednesday 17 July 2019 at 7.30 pm and 9.45 pm and Saturday 20 July 2019 at 5pm. Gold lamé turban optional but encouraged.
