Disney announced on Friday that it will be rebooting the Lizzie McGuire show at the D23 Expo convention, with Hilary Duff returning to her rightful throne.
The beloved Disney sitcom will be available on the new streaming service, Disney+.
The reprisal will be a continuation of the original show but will now follow a hopefully matured 30-year-old Lizzie living her adult life in New York. The new take caters to the loyal fans of the much-loved show. It is a chance to relive the nostalgia of growing up, as a grown-up. Lizzie will still be joined by an animated (and sassier) version of herself who will continue to provide Lizzie’s inner-monologue.
Hilary Duff is extremely thrilled about the reboot and has said, “The good news is just like me and everybody who loved her, Lizzie grew up. She’s older and wiser and has a much bigger shoe budget.”.
The original show ran from 2001 to 2004 created by Terri Minsky, who is also supporting the reboot. Filming has not started yet but Duff and Minsky have been working closely together to create and develop the upcoming show.
