Mark your calendars! Sole DXB is back and bigger than ever

The hugely popular culture and lifestyle festival is taking over Dubai Design District again this December, and this year it’s celebrating the hypnotic sights and sounds of Jamaica. The birthplace of reggae formed the foundation for both contemporary pop music and Hip Hop and has heavily influenced how we create - so it’s only fitting that the rich culture of the island be the focal point of this year’s event.

Record shop of the popular Jamaican reggae singer and record producer, Derrick Clifton Harriott, located in the central Kingston. The record store includes a variety of rare reggae LP’s and iconic Jamaican artists dating back to the 30’s. Photographed is Earl Morgan, lead signer of the legendary 60’s group, The Heptones.

What started as a close-knit festival for sneaker enthusiasts and creatives to celebrate streetwear and under-represented names has now grown into one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, with over 28,500 people attending last year.

Tivoli Gardens is neighbourhood in Kingston developed as a renewl project that was at the centre of poverty and social unrest. Every night a different soundsystem of DJ’s is featured in the communities block party residency that plays raw dancehall and dub until the early hours of the morning.

Shop the finest cultivation of streetwear and catch performances by some of the biggest names in the industry over the three-day event. Giggs, Lion Babe and Nas performed last year, ICYMI. Make sure to download the Sole DXB app to stay up to date on releases and programmes, so you’re right on time when some of the most sought-after pieces are launched (spoiler alert: the queues are huge).

The sneaker swap will be returning for those that are ready to splash (more than a little) cash and you’ll also be able to cheer on your favourite teams at the Sole Ball Above All Classic.

As usual the space will be full of activations - look out for Burberry, Adidas Originals, Farfetch, Levi’s and Puma – so you can make sure all your followers know you didn’t miss out. Hey, that’s important to some people.
