While we’re still calming down after Aladdin and simultaneously gearing up for the emotional rollercoaster that is The Lion King, Disney not only decides to drop a The Little Mermaid live-action bombshell, but now they’ve gone and released the trailer for a live-action remake of Mulan.
Mulan is the epic story of a fearless woman’s dedication to her family and her country. Mulan is sent to a matchmaker before learning that her father, an elderly man, is due to fight in China’s war. She then disguises herself as a man to fight in her father’s place, going on to (spoiler alert!) be one of the greatest and most respected warriors her country has ever seen.
Mulan will be played by Chinese-American actor Liu Yifei and she'll be joined by an all-Asian cast, and we couldn’t be happier – especially considering the last Asian ensemble cast we saw was in Crazy Rich Asians last year. Plus, we love seeing fierce women take over the silver screen, and we’re even more excited that it’s a woman we looked up to throughout our childhood.
The trailer, which aired during the Women’s World Cup Final, has already racked up seven million views since being posted last night and is the number one trending video on YouTube, so it’s safe to say this one will be a hit.
- Disney’s Mulan is due to hit cinemas in March of 2020.
