Whatever your personal feelings about Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness and lifestyle site Goop, you have to love its ability to poke fun at itself courtesy of its annual ‘Awesome but Ridiculous’ gift guide.
This year the site has compiled a list of gifts that are out of this world. No, we’re not being flippant, they actually are.
Top of the ridiculous pile is the Lunar Rock Edition of Norman Mailer’s MoonFire is designed by Marc Newson. Each book is contained in a case inspired by the Apollo 11 LEM (Lunar Excursion Module)—its surface an actual 3-D topography of the Moon—and comes with a unique piece of lunar meteorite. This slice of space will set you back a substantial chunk of change - $275,000 to be exact.
Also listed is a modular tree house for $110,000, 12 months of expeditions to see 12 different endangered species costing $1.3 million in total, a trip to space on board the Virgin Galactic for $250,000, and a flight training gravity suit, $6,450, for your upcoming trip, because one must consider their wardrobe choices at all times.
However the guide does list some slightly more affordable things. You can adorn your home with a brass fire extinguisher that costs a mere $250, or if dehydrated caviar is your jam, you can pick one up for $99.
Our personal favourite? The custom-built plant music installation, $25,000, that will “help your plants sing”.
