Breaking news! A dinosaur has broken into a local mall and reports say it has a strong liking for gold... Ok that's not entirely true. There is a dinosaur but it's not reenacting Jurassic Park, obviously. The fossil of a 24.4 metres long and 7.6 metres high Diplodocus longus has recently been put on display in the Souk Dome at The Dubai Mall (so it does have an eye - no, an eye socket for the shiny stuff). The spectacular dino has resurfaced years after its inital exhibition in 2014 to be auctioned off to whoever has a passion for the prehistoric and a very very large bank account. Because this skellie is no cheap replica - the starting value is Dhs14.6 million and the auction will end on 25 August. Interestingly, the Dubai dino is listed as a car so hopefully the highest bidder will have enough money leftover to turn it into an epic robotic dino and ride it to battle... or Spinneys, depending on how much storage there is.
The fossil was discovered in 2008 at the Dana Quarry in North Central Wyoming. Nearly 90 per cent of the fossil’s bones are original and it seems that Diplodocus longus was a fighter as its tail bones were injured during its lifetime, presumably due to a predator’s bite or from exerted tail force during a battle. Fingers crossed the 'destroyer dino' is actualised because its clearly made to be a warrior.
