Single-use plastics are one of the biggest contributors to eco-system pollution.
And to try and combat this, IKEA has taken the decision to phase out all single-use use plastic products like straws, plates, cups, freezer bags, garbage bags and plastic-coated paper plates and cups from its home furnishing range globally.
Its new range of renewable source disposable items will now be made from materials such as paper, bamboo and metal, depending on the market, and the Swedish homewares giant is also coming up with new ways to reduce its packaging.
It hopes the plastic packaging material used in its packaging by 2030 will mainly be bio-based.
A lot done, a lot more to do, but a great start to the new decade we think you’ll agree.
