Life is stressful, this we all know. The past couple of years have seen the explosion of the "wellness industry", and with it a mixed bag of life changing positives, exploitative negatives and ripeness for mockery and derision. However, feeling able to admit their struggles and being offered potential means of dealing with the intensity of everyday 21st century life is ultimately a really very good thing. But what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.
Meditation and self reflection are not to be scoffed at. Ever. They are practices that have transformed and saved lives all over the world. But they don't work for everyone, or on every occasion. Sometimes you need other forms of soul soothing; fun, friendship, good company, nourishment, releashing endorphins and maybe a bit of good old fashioned plate smashing. All of these healthy, tension releasing things are on the menu at Opa Dubai.
A visit to Opa Dubai feels almost like a mini vacation to Mykonos. With flowers abounding from the walls and ceilings and smiling staff in traditional Greek dress, I felt the long, sweaty day melt away as I sat down to an ice cold drink and plate of their famous Opa Lahmajoun, a traditional Greek dish involving minced lamb, spices, roasted pine nuts and lashings of creamy Greek yogurt. Many courses later, the tables cleared to allow waiters and guests to let loose and dance the Zorba. Last but definitely not least came the plate smashing AKA my new favourite kind of therapy.
