As your holiday technically begins the minute you step on the plane, the airline you choose to fly with can have a massive impact on the overall enjoyment of your trip.
So UAE residents should be happy to know that Emirates Airlines has been ranked within the top 10 airlines according to AirlineRating.com, an Australian aviation and safety product-rating agency.
Air New Zealand nabbed the top spot, thanks to its in-flight facilities, safety record, staff and environmental achievements – the airline has managed to reduce its carbon emissions more than 20 per cent in the last 10 years.
Singapore Airlines came in second place, and Japan's All Nippon, Australia's Qantas and Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific, came in third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Emirates Airlines took the sixth spot on the list, and was also named best long-haul Middle Eastern airline, and Best In-Flight Entertainment thanks to its ICE system.
Virgin Atlantic, Eva Air, Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia made up the world’s top 10 airlines.
Lufthansa, Finnair, Japan Airlines, KLM, Korean Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, British Airways, Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines made up the rest of the top 20, with Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, taking 20th position.
Etihad recently added the Boeing 787 Greenliner to its fleet in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.
