Dubai Airport is aiming to be plastic-free by January 2020

While air travel continues to be one of the most problematic areas in the fight against the global climate crisis, Dubai Airport is trying to do its bit by aiming to be plastic-free by January 2020.

This include banning the use of single-use plastic items such as cutlery, straws and shopping bags from consumer areas.

The dependence on single-use plastic is one of the most damaging to the environment and according to a report by the World Economic Forum filed in November 2019, just nine per cent of plastic waste generated is recycled.

The WEF also advised that corporations have the power to directly influence customer behaviour, and praised Majid Al Futtaim for its pledge to phase out single-use plastics by 2025.
