If you don’t believe in fairy tales, you’ve never seen it snow in Red Square. Witnessing a flurry of flakes cover the Kremlin cannot fail to fill you with childlike wonderment, amid the centuries of history that surround you. Very few cities treat their department stores with as much reverence as their museums, but Moscow is one of them, enlisting Russian architect Roman Ivanovich Klein – who was responsible for the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts – to design the seven-storey European gothic building with Art Nouveau influences that houses TsUM next to the Bolshoi Theatre, in 1907.
Today, as TsUM celebrates its 110th anniversary, it’s become as much of a landmark in its own right as the statue of Karl Marx that solemnly surveys it from Revolution Square.

WHERE TO SHOP
It’s TsUM’s 110th birthday and the world’s invited. Not only did the department store celebrate by launching a capsule collection of exclusive pieces by Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, Tom Ford, Marni and Sergio Rossi, to name but a few, but also threw a fantastical party, turning the bowels of the building into a haunted Russian folk fairy tale for the night with a glittering guest list that included influencers from our region such as Rym Saidi Breidy and Diala Makki, and Grazia of course, to mark the auspicious occasion. Meanwhile, on the shop floor, an intricate origami snowscape set the scene for an anniversary exhibition shining the spotlight on Russian designers including Vika Gazinskaya, while a creative buy of names including Gabriela Hearst and Simone Rocha promises to keep TsUM’s fashion offering fresh for another century to come.
