When you live in the desert, you don’t expect umbrellas and wellington boots to feature in your wardrobe, or have your flight delayed or cancelled due to rain.
But operations at Dubai Airport have been severely affected by heavy rainfall, with several flights delayed and cancelled.
Taking to Twitter, @DubaiAirports shared that travellers should expect “knock-on effects of today’s heavy rainfall resulting in a number of flight delays, cancellations & diversions”.
It also warned that as additional rainfall was expected later this evening, the disruption would continue “for the next 24 hours”.
Emirates Airline has also warned of delays and disruptions, and has advised passengers to check their flight status before attempting to reach the airport.
The ramp area at the airport also appeared to be submerged in water overnight, and those travelling to the airport experienced severe flooding on the roads.
