While there are plenty of things taking place in the UAE every weekend to keep you entertained, the National Day holidays coming up in early December have return flights to somewhere else written all over them.
Starting with Commemoration Day on Sunday, 1 December, followed by two days for the country's 48th National Day celebrations on 1 and 3 December, most people in the private and public sectors will have a total of five days in a row off over the first weekend of next month.
So if you're in the market for a holiday and don't mind braving the airport on a Thursday evening, check out these easy-to-get-to destinations:
Why not make like Kate Perry and spend your five-day weekend uncovering the splendour of the Pyramids of Giza and taking in camel rides in the desert. There are also art galleries and shops to take in.

Looking for stunning unspoilt beaches but don’t want to hit up The Maldives? Check out Zanzibar instead. Plus, the ancient city of Stone Town was declared a UNESCO cultural heritage site in 2000 so there’s plenty of sightseeing to do if the sun lounger isn’t doing it for you.

Surrounded by mountains and vineyards, Tbilisi is also known for its ski and snow sports during winter months, perfect if you want to get in the festive spirit ahead of the holiday season.

St Petersburg, Russia
Steeped in history, St Petersburg offers culture vultures a range of museums and The Winter Palace, and is perfect for brushing up on ballet or opera.

Voted the must-visit city of 2020 by Lonely Planet, why not waltz in ahead of the crowds and see Vienna this side of New Year’s instead. The city boasts imperial palaces, café culture and skiing to boot.
