The UAE is one of the first countries to have launched a coronavirus tracking app alongside China and Singapore.
So, how does it work? In the UAE, the TraceCovid app is available to download for both, Android and iOS, and functions only on Bluetooth mode. It will detect nearby users and exchange an encrypted Secure Tracing Identifier, which will be stored on the phone. The Secure Tracking Identifier will consist of a database of all persons in close contact with the user and will notify you if any of the individuals in your proximity have tested positive with COVID-19.
In support of the advanced initiative and effort to combat the coronavirus and contain its spread, Apple and Google have announced that they will enable interoperability between Android and iOS devices using apps from public health authorities such as UAE’s TraceCovid app.
Found in a recent statement in the Apple Newsroom, “All of us at Apple and Google believe there has never been a more important moment to work together to solve one of the world’s most pressing problems. Through close cooperation and collaboration with developers, governments and public health providers, we hope to harness the power of technology to help countries around the world slow the spread of COVID-19 and accelerate the return of everyday life.”
