OFF THE DXBEATEN TRACK: SECRET EATERIES TO KNOW
YOU'LL FIND US LIVING OUR BEST LIFE, INSTAGRAMMING THE WALL IN HOT PALAYOK

1. HOT PALAYOK

Tucked away in Karama, this place serves Pinoy favourites like spiced tilapia and street food such as kwek kwek (tempuraesque boiled eggs).

2. SMAT

Experience traditional Emirati recipes passed down through generations in this Uptown Mirdif gem.

3. CHAI AND CO

In the market for a paratha sandwich? How about some saffron karak tea? This delightful café in Al Warqa is the answer.

4. AYUBOWAN

This JLT-based Sri Lankan eatery will take you on a flavour-packed culinary journey through the Silk Route. Think chilli crab and top-notch dhal.

5. GRUB SHACK

‘Rustic’ and ‘shack’ are two words we love to hear; a welcome change from the oodles of fine-dining spots we’re spoiled with. This one in Umm Hurair is low-key and serves a mean biryani.

6. WOK N’ ROLL

We love the Pan-Asian bao, dumplings and curries at this Barsha bolthole even more than we love its puntastic name.

7. TUM TUM ASIA

An all-veggie menu of street-eats from China, India, Japan and beyond, all to be found in Oud Metha.

8. WOODEN CELLAR

With dishes inspired by the kitchens of Greek grandmothers – or yiayias – this place in Sports City is as close to authentic as it gets.

9. FISH HUT

The second Oud Metha gem to grace this list, Fish Hut’s Asian seafood smorgasbord comprises everything from char-grilled squid to delicious tiger prawns and calamari.

10. THAT PLACE

Think of your favourite dishes from around the world. That Place stuffs them into a bun. Simple, yet brilliant. Especially the Nutella-filled Dream Come True.
