The team at Anantara The Palm is going above and beyond what is required when it comes to compliance with government safety measures.
There’s temp checks as you pull up at the hotel security barrier, valet is cancelled – so park your own car (just under the restaurant so a short enough walk to still warrant heels), and another temp check as you enter Mekong, their Thai and Asian-inspired restaurant.
Tables have been moved to allow for a 30 per cent capacity only, but the place doesn’t feel at all bare, and as it filled up there’s a fun level of chatter.
The obligatory gloves and mask are to be worn until you’re seated (the staff keep theirs on of course) but where the extra mile comes in is with Mekon's innovative QR-based menus.
No need to worry about touching the same menu as other diners, or the environmental impact that comes with single use print-outs, just use your phone’s camera to hover over the QR code pop up card and the menu opens up on your mobile device.
Browse starters including crispy springs rolls and house-made made dim sum (make sure to order the deep fried prawn dumplings), delicious traditional dishes such as green curries and pad Thai’s, add your deserts and beverages and then just let your social distancing waiter or waitress know.
The staff are not only serving dishes at a safe distance as needed but they’re doing it cheerfully and most likely with a smile on their masked faces.
