Winter is pending, which means it’s the perfect time to reacquaint ourselves with nature and eat meat-free.
Enjoy our picks of plant-based menus in the region – each boasts outdoor seating, allowing you to bask in the sunshine while increasing awareness of sustainable and vegan eating
Vegan, but make it fashion: that’s how we see Italian eatery Il Borro’s plant-based menu. Push the boat out and order a sensational selection of meat-free and dairy-free Italian dishes with a Tuscan twist, such as the beetroot tartare with blackberries and roasted hazelnuts, Tuscan spaghetti with fresh basil and almond pesto, and chocolate tart with caramelised banana ice-cream. Even better, each dish falls under the Dhs110 mark, too. There is simply nothing sweeter than dining on delicious food, guilt-free, by the Turtle Lagoon at Jumeirah Al Naseem. See you there.
- Il Boro at Jumeirah Al Naseem. Open daily from midday to 3.30pm and 7pm to 1pm. For reservations call (+971) 4 275 2555
V for Vegan at Aqua, Rosewood Abu Dhabi
The award-winning Rosewood Abu Dhabi has made a conscious decision to go completely vegan every Sunday in its all-day dining destination, Aqua. This means a lavish spread of starters, mains and desserts – think mac and cheese and chocolate-chip banana cake – is served for Dhs180. It also includes an unlimited package of organic vegan hops and grapes that can be paired with the dinner for an additional Dhs80. It’s officially the capital’s first vegan theme night and the first and only plant-based dinner buffet. Grazia recommends the vegan burger, which has been such a hit it’s now on the Rosewood Garden Brunch menu too.

Wild & The Moon
Are you even vegan if you haven’t eaten (and Instagrammed) at Wild & The Moon? The restaurant has been a Grazia favourite since its opening in 2016, thanks to its consistent serving of high-quality food and interesting takes on mainstream favourites (the vegan tacos, vanilla shakes and blueberry scones ooze appeal). Positioned as a health-food café in trendy Alserkal Avenue, food and drinks are 100 per cent organic, cold-pressed, plant-based, wheat-free and unpasteurised. We recommend setting up in the sunshine on one of the chunky wooden benches outside the chic space with urban-jungle décor. Wild & The Moon is well ahead of the vegan trend and deserves at least a weekly visit. Just saying.
- Wild & The Moon, Alserkal Avenue, Street 8. Open daily from 8am to 8pm (10pm close on Fridays and Saturdays). Call (+971) 4 343 3392 for more info
Life 'N One
The wellness centre might not be the obvious choice for a bite to eat, but Life’n One’s vegan café ticks all the boxes when it comes to healthy and nourishing food. Plus, you get to enjoy eggless omelettes, power salads, burgers and sweet treats such as raw matcha doughnuts, all washed down with fresh smoothies, in the pretty green garden. The local and organic goodies promise to fuel your day while making a humble contribution to a better world. Life’n One swerves the use of microwaves, refined sugar and gluten and we couldn’t love this creative little hub more.
- Life ‘N One, Jumeirah Street, Dubai. Open Daily from 9.30am to 7.30pm. Call (+971) 56 534 2899
Nighttime party place Miss Tess launched a vegan menu with over 30 dishes back in April – and the utterly moreish tofu teriyaki, maki rolls, crisp salads and super sweet chocolate banana bochi have kept us coming back ever since. All this goodness is served alongside upbeat entertainment (think dancers in dinosaur outfits, no less), so whether you’re a proud vegan or simply a soul who wants to do better for the environment, we promise you’ll fall in head over heels for the city’s Asian street-food inspired venue, complete with modern terrace and views of Burj Khalifa.
- Miss Tess, Taj Hotel, Business Bay. Open 6pm to 2am every day. For reservations call (+971) 50 498 8505
