You guac our world: the best places in DXB to devour avocado
In celebration of National Avocado Day, we do some hardcore investigating on the best local joints serving the green stuff. Hey - it's hard work, but someone's got to do it...
It’s the dish that switched up the breakfast game, and now there’s officially a national day to commemorate the humble avocado. Quite right too.
The homegrown venue takes the avo game to the next level with their legendary Smashed Avocado Toast. It boasts turkey-bacon bits, siracha mascarpone, beet chutney, two poached eggs, feta cheese and a sprinkle of chia and pumpkin seeds served on a multigrain loaf. If that doesn't keep the hunger at bay we may have an issue.
The 'bravocado' is one of the best kind of eggs Benedict in Dubai. Why? We're so glad you asked: It comes served atop a mini-mountain of sliced avocado, a lightly spiced tomato salsa, melted parmesan and cheddar cheeses. Oh, and a portion of Lyonaisse style potatoes, too (don't judge us).
Here, there are three irresistible avocado toasties to choose from: the traditional avocado with crushed tomatoes, onion, chili and coriander (Dhs30), the quirky avocado with sweetcorn and spring onion (Dhs32), or the 'make a meal of it' avocado on toast with sautéed mushrooms, cucumber and smoked salmon (Dhs52). Don’t mind us, we’re just ordering all three over here.
Baker and Spice
Winner of Best Breakfast venue 2017, Baker & Spice does a mean avocado on toast and deserves the title. Mixing things up, the avo is sliced rather than smashed (we like to be kept on our toes), and you can add a couple of poached eggs and a scattering of seeds should you wish to.
The Surf Café
Situated just a few minutes away from the beach, The Surf Cafe is a great spot to enjoy a big healthy breakfast. Three free-range poached eggs, toasted rye bread, olive tapenade, sliced avocado, rocket and pomegranate do the trick nicely in this case. You won't be disappointed.
