Ramadan Beauty Reflections: Bouchra Ezzahraoui

Does your beauty routine differ during Ramadan compared to the rest of the year?

I tend to moisturise more as I find my skin suffers with dehydration. I also like to wear lighter creams during the day.

How do you beat the dehydration?

I prefer using hydrating creams over heavy moisturisers, which tend to cause breakouts for me, especially during the hot summer months. Last year I discovered Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream and it transformed my dehydrated skin in literally three to four days. It has a super-light texture and leaves my skin feeling fuller and smoother.

Talk us through your beauty regime during Ramadan.

I like to stick to the same daily regime, but with an extra focus on moisture. My skincare routine morning and evening looks like this: first I cleanse with Bioderma Micellar Water and Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser, prep with Biologique Recherche P50 lotion, and Crème Elastine Marine, and follow with Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream along with Joanna Vargas Revitalizing eye cream. Three times a week during my evening routine I add the Biologique Amniotique Serum for intense moisture.

How much make-up do you wear during Ramadan?

I usually avoid wearing make-up during the day, except for a touch of concealer. But if I do wear more, I use the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream SPF50, concealer and a little bit of Chanel blush.

What does an average day look like for you during Ramadan?

Life has to go as usual in NYC, especially when running a high-growth startup. I just adapt the meal hours but that’s about it.

Could you share your advice on how you stay healthy during Ramadan?

I avoid binge eating and make a conscious effort to integrate fruits & vegetables in my diet.

What does Ramadan mean to you?

Ramadan is a month for patience, reflection, tolerance and solidarity. It’s not just about the fast vs the indulgence, if anything, it’s the opposite. This entails showing more kindness and patience, practicing more meditation and giving thanks to the blessings I have in my life.
