There is no shortage of fitness classes in the UAE, that’s for sure. So to compete in this heavily saturated market you need to boast a unique concept, shiny studio and proven results.
Enter Reform Athletica, a new, boutique fitness studio based on Dubai's Jumeriah Beach Road. It offers two different classes full of 10-12 likeminded people basically wanting to tone up and get strong.
We were one of the first to trial the new classes, and we thought this: TRX Athletica, a high-intensity class based on the TRX suspension trainer, was challenging but had a great atmsophere with cool music playing throughout.
After a brief warm-up our heart rate was raised thanks to sets of burpees, mountain climbers and sprinting on the spot. Lovely. We then took to the TRX machine for the majority of the session (think planks, squats and chest presses) and finished with weighted ball slams. And, according to the 'ol Fitbit, we burned 400 cals in 45 minutes. Not bad going, eh?
The second class option is Reform Method. It's a Pilates class consisitng of 50 minutes of strength and conditioning exercises performed on the latest Lagree Megaformer machine (it’s not as scary as it looks, honest.) Better still, the full-body workout is low-impact so it's designed for every level of fitness. We'll definitely be returning.
And continuing our #GoGreenWithGrazia campaign, the studio offers filtered water dispensers to encourage gym bunnies to refill their bottles and not buy plastic alternatives. There are also creative displays by the likes of photographic artist Mandy Barker - whose work is motivated to raise awareness about plastic pollution in the world's oceans - on the walls. Amazing.
Classes start from Dhs130. See reformathletica.com for more info.
