Sheikh Zayed Road is shutting down for one day only for a great reason

It's one of the busiest areas in Dubai, and at any given moment is packed full of traffic.

But for one day only, Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed off to all cars and turned into a running track instead.

Taking place on Friday 8 November, the 14-lane monster of a motorway will host 5km and 10km running routes as part of Dubai Fitness Challenge.

Both starting and ending at World Trade Centre, the free-to-attend event is open to everyone aged 18 and over, however the course must be completed in 80 minutes or under. Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted for the 5km fun run, however rollerblades and scooters are not.

The organisers are hoping the event will give participants a "unique, on-foot perspective of iconic sights as they come together to demonstrate their commitment to an active lifestyle and DFC’s vision to make Dubai the most active city in the world”.

And if you'd like to take part all you have to do is register ahead of the event.
