If your idea of reconnecting with Mother Nature is watching the Discovery Channel, you might want to listen up.
“Earthing” is a new wellness trend that is not only about connecting with nature, but is scientifically proven to improve sleep disorders, cardiovascular diseases and mental health. And rather handily, it’s pretty easy to master.
What exactly is it?
Earthing is essentially about connecting our bare skin directly to the Earth’s surface in order to conduct the vast supply of electrons on the Earth’s surface into the body.
As humans, we are conductors and our bodies hold electrical charge. Research suggests that reconnection with the Earth’s electrons can help balance out the electrical currents within our bodies to promote normal functioning of all body systems.
Scientific research supports the concept that the Earth's electrons induce multiple physiological changes when our bodies come into contact with it including reduced pain, better sleep, soothing the nervous system, reductions in blood viscosity and reduced inflammation.
And if that’s not convincing enough, Gwyneth Paltrow counts herself a fan!
Here’s how to do it
- During times of pain or stress, step outside barefooted for at least half an hour
- Sit, stand, lay or walk on grass, sand, dirt, or plain concrete. These are all conductive surfaces that will help your body draw the Earth’s energy. Wood, carpet, asphalt, or painted concrete won’t work and will block the flow of electrons as they are not conductive surfaces.
