In 2017, The Body Coach aka Joe Wicks set the world record at 3,804 during a HIIT class in London’s Hyde Park, and during his recent trip to Dubai, he tried to do it again.
This time round, he was aiming for 4,000 attendees in Dubai, however the global fitness superstar took to Instagram to reveal that he didn’t quite manage to break his own record, despite a huge crowd turning out to lend their support and work up a sweat.
“Unfortunately we didn’t break the record but what a fantastic event," he captioned a shot of him posing in front of the crowd. "So proud of everyone that came along and trained in the heat. It was amazing to see so many people come together and take part in an epic challenge."
Joe’s attempt is part of Dubai Fitness Challenge, the 30-day initiative devised by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai.
First launched in 2016, Dubai Fitness Challenge runs for 30 days, and wants to encourage people living in the Emirate to complete 30 minutes of exercise per day. This year’s initiative will run until 30 November, and Kite Beach and Dubai Festival City have been transformed into two themed fitness villages.
However, Joe's attempt at breaking the record wasn't the only reason for his trip and he also took in some of the best activities Dubai has to offer. During his trip, Joe took part in the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon at DIFC and led a community workout sessions at Fitness First Ibn Battuta Mall.
He also visited The Green Planet, Oli Oli, went on a Desert Safari, and visited At The Top at the Burj Khalifa.
