We all know a country built in the desert isn’t exactly well equipped for winter weather – especially when that means high winds and heavy downpour. Remember when Dubai Mall flooded last month?
Ensuring the safety of your employees amid the unstable weather conditions and rain in the UAE, we call on all employers to check the ministerial circular no. 8 for 2018 on employees' safety in variable climate circumstances. #UAE #MOHRE pic.twitter.com/7pvpod0ReT— MOHRE_UAE وزارة الموارد البشرية والتوطين (@MOHRE_UAE) December 15, 2019
It’s this exact issue that’s prompted the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to remind companies to allow employees flexible working hours during bad weather, including rain or fog that compromises visibility on the roads. This is to ensure employee safety, as rushing to work during bad weather can cause serious road accidents, and to make sure staff aren’t reprimanded for being late when they’ve been sitting in a puddle for four hours (and not in bed like their boss may think). According to a circular that was issued in 2018, ‘late arrival should be taken into consideration’ and employers should adhere to the safety requirements of their staff.
We’ll keep this in mind next time those dark clouds come our way.
