Plastic. We know it as a modern nuisance; cluttering pantries, our digestive systems (yes, really), and most worryingly, our oceans.
Happily, however, entering right on cue to raise awareness of the importance of keeping our oceans clean and to teach us how to combat plastic waste is 'Swim for Clean Seas'.
The event, taking place off the coast of Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort on 3 April, will feature a sea swim followed by talks from ocean health experts about the world’s multiple marine issues and how we as individuals can do our part in helping out. The family-friendly event will also involve activities including a beach clean-up hunt.
Felicia Agmyren, co-founder of Swim for Clean Seas said, "The inspiration for bringing the event to the UAE capital was firstly to raise awareness of the decreasing health of the oceans."
“Swim for Clean Seas is a way to engage people from all across the community, while having a healthy swim and learning about small changes we can all easily make in our daily lives to help our oceans thrive.”
You can sign up for four different swim distances - 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m. While saving the planet is reward enough, prizes will also be handed out and a winner will be crowned for each swim.
