We can’t imagine why anyone would try and take advantage of people amid a global pandemic... Hello? We're in this together. But, if in case you do feel cheated by your neighbourhood supermarket or pharmacy, the Dubai Department of Economic Development, DED, has launched a helpline you can call to report any drastic price increase of necessities and medication during this time.
“Businesses should refrain from taking advantage of the present situation to inflate prices of face masks, sanitisers and disinfectants,” shared a spokesman from DED, as the body recently investigated and issued a fine of Dhs5,000 to three pharmacies in Dubai who had unfairly escalated the prices of products in demand as a result of COVID-19.
Hats off to DED for acting quickly in support of the community – assuring all residents and citizens that no one will be fleeced while its in charge. A chart was recently shared on its Instagram explaining average food prices to refer to when shopping.
If you happen to find that you or your family and friends have been debited unfairly, call the DED helpline on 600545555 or file a complaint online here.
We at Grazia are here to remind you to support one another, stay positive and don’t forget to wash your hands!
