DEATH OF THE INFLUENCER?

The power list of influencers released last month concluded that reports of the death of the influencer were greatly exaggerated. However, four weeks is a long time in the fashion world, and proving that it’s only a matter of time before robots take over our jobs, meet Miquela Sousa, the world’s first virtual influencer.

Yes, you read that right. With 740k followers and a wardrobe full of Proenza Schouler, Supreme and Kenzo, the 19-year-old LA-based model and musician already boasts a blue tick, having been verified by Instagram, and has been chosen by catwalk make-up artist Pat McGrath as the muse to debut her latest colours and techniques. Keen to let you know she’s woker than your average influencer, spliced between the Spanish/Brazilian Insta star’s #OOTD you’ll find her defending DACA – an American child-immigration policy threatened by the Trump administration – and advocating Black Lives Matter. However, influencers of the Middle East can rest easy – she’s still 23.9m followers away from catching up with Huda Kattan.
