While millions of people flock to The Dubai Mall to experience the aquarium and spectacular fountains, unsuspecting shoppers witnessed other areas of the mall go under water during today’s heavy rain fall.
In a video shared online, shoppers can be seen wading through water in the Kate Spade store, while in another shot, mall staff can be seen placing sandbags at the top of the escalators near the affected area to prevent the water from travelling any further.
According to the Dubai Media Office, Emaar has released a statement advising shoppers that despite the flooding, it’s business as usual at the mall.
"Dubai Mall was affected by the heavy rainfall, causing leakages in limited areas. We are working to contain all leakages and the mall remains operational and open to the public. Mall staff are on the ground, ensuring the visitor experience remains unaffected,” an Emaar spokesperson said.
The heavy downpour has also caused disruption to flight in Dubai airport, which is asking passengers to check its website for updated information, while police in Abu Dhabi have warned its residents to exercise caution on public roads.
