Urban Decay's 'Pretty Different' campaign challenges beauty standards and celebrates diversity

American R&B artist Lizzo is known for empowering lyrics coupled with rockstar-level skills on the flute (yes, the flute). Following her outstanding performance at the BET Awards, she is now featuring in her first major beauty campaign.

Urban Decay's 'Pretty Different' campaign is all about celebrating individuality and what makes us unique. The campaign is Urban Decay's take on reinventing what it means to be a beauty brand and singing sensation Lizzo represents that perfectly - after all, she is the queen of self-love and body positivity. Her inclusion is progress toward a more diverse representation in the beauty world and in mainstream media, which in the past featured few plus-size models or women of colour. Hopefully other well-known names will follow suit and recognise the power of featuring icons such as Lizzo in their campaigns, thanks to the millions of individuals that identify with her. People such as actress Joey King, Columbian singer Karol G, K-Pop artist CL and others are also joining her in the campaign to challenge pre-existing beauty standards.
