“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be standing here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to me for hope? How dare you”. This is how climate activist Greta Thunberg began her speech at the UN Climate Action Summit that shamed world leaders for their lack of action against the climate change crisis.
Generation Z are protesting worldwide against climate change in the very movement that Greta herself started. #Fridaysforthefuture sees schoolchildren skip school on Fridays in order to take to the streets to call out world leaders for not acknowledging the severity of the crisis. Greta began skipping school on Fridays over a year ago and has inspired people all over the world to do the same. She referred to the movement in her passionate speech: “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words… and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you”.
