Kim Kardashian isn’t exactly a secretive person – she shares her life, good and bad, with the world on Keeping up with the Kardashians – including her struggle with psoriasis. While she’s always been open about her battle with the skin condition, Kim opened up more than ever in a post for sister Kourtney’s website Poosh.
Kim reminisces about seeing mum Kris battle the condition, though she didn’t realise it would soon be part of her life, too. Experiencing her first flare-up at 25, Kim quickly treated it with a visit to the dermatologist, and it didn’t return until her early thirties. Since then, Kim experiences regular flare-ups. but has learned to not let them get her down. She admits “I’ll just deal. Sometimes I cover it up and sometimes I don’t. It doesn’t really bother me”. She goes on to say “I’ll only cover it up if it’s a distraction”, especially if she’s experiencing a particularly bad flare-up that covers the majority of her face and body.
In addition to psoriasis, Kim’s also been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis which causes extreme joint pain and swelling – so much so that she couldn’t dress herself during one particularly painful episode. Ouch.
Inspired by her psoriasis, Kim launched body make-up earlier this year for those battling similar skin conditions, with the aim of helping them feel more confident. The release was met with praise from those not only fighting psoriasis, but also for those with scars, pigmentation and other ‘blemishes’ they’d rather conceal. While her body make-up may fool those into thinking she’s preaching to cover your condition, Kim insists it’s all about what makes you feel most confident. Her final message to other sufferers? “You can’t let it ruin your life and get the best of you”. Hear, Hear.
