And while most of us usually resort to the old faithfuls to see us through, when you're married to Kim Kardashian, expensive scented candles or spa vouchers just won't cut the mustard.
Which is probably why Kanye shunned convention for his wife's 39th birthday, and gifted her with a $1 million charity donation in her name, to some of her favourite causes.
Taking to social media, the mother-of-four revealed that Kanye and their four children, North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm, donated the money to prison reform charities, Cut 50, Buried Alive Project, Equal Justice Initiative and Anti-Recidivism Collective.
Kim who is currently studying to become a lawyer by undertaking a four-year apprenticeship with a San Francisco law firm, has been actively involved in pushing prison reform in the US ever since she became aware of the plight of former inmate Alice Marie Johnson.
Alice, who was sentenced to life for non-violent drug offence, served 21 years before she was released, and Kim personally convinced US president Donald Trump to commute her sentence.
Kim has also secretly funded the Buried Alive Project, which has helped free 17 inmates who were handed huge jail sentences for low-level drug offences as part of its 90 Days of Freedom project.
