We all know and love the masterpiece that is the God is a Woman music video, the one where Ariana Grande looks like the true ethereal being she is. But it turns out that the artist Vladmir Kush doesn’t think she’s so holy.
In January, the Las Vegas-based artist sued the singer and others involved for copyright infringement over the use of a shot of her dancing in a candle flame. Kush stated that the video was “strikingly similar” to his own artwork ‘The Candle’ that was copyrighted in 1999 and 2000.
The original complaint stated “Defendants clearly copied Mr. Kush’s expression of this idea,”. “Specifically, defendants chose to use the same colour palette, the same background of a cloudy sky, the same ring effect of the clouds around the flame, the same light beams radiating from the flame, and the same colour candle, light fading to dark."
The two parties had reached a resolution by July and needed “additional time to finalize the settlement”. Evidently, the voluntary dismissal was filed by Kush on 16 August as an agreement was reached.
