Singer, songwriter and activist Pink received the People’s Champion 2019 award at the E! People’s Choice Awards last night but unlike usual, it wasn’t her vocals or death-defying performance that had everyone talking, but her inspiring acceptance speech.
Chosen because of her support for organisations like Make-a-Wish and the Human Rights Campaign as well as for actively fighting for equality and women’s rights, the UNICEF ambassador inspired everyone watching by urging us all to try to make a difference, as it only takes one person to start a movement.
“There is so much to be done… I care about decency and humanity and kindness. Kindness today is an act of rebellion. There are people who don’t have what you have, help them get it”. Pink continued “There is a planet that needs help… stop fighting each other and help each other”. And she had an even stronger message for those that doubt their ability to change the world and have an impact, saying “Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafszi and Greta Thunberg – tell me one person can’t make a difference”.
