Grab your tissues everyone, the time has officially come – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just attended their last event as senior members of the Royal Family. Meghan and Harry attended the annual Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey alongside The Queen, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Megan and Prince Harry sat behind Kate and William for the service.
The appearance was also the first time The Sussexes (as they’ll no longer be known) have been seen with The Queen since they announced their decision to step back from their royal duties in January.
They won’t officially give up their HRH titles until March 31 but this is the last time we’ll see them fulfilling official royal duties, although they’ll still attend royal events on occasion. Prince Harry will no longer have the role of Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, but will remain president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust with Meghan retaining her role as the Trust’s vice president.
Meghan looked stunning as usual in an emerald Emilia Wickstead dress, complete with a matching cape and William Chambers fascinator. She topped off the look with Aquazzura heels and the cutest micro-bag by Gabriela Hearst. The lining of Harry’s jacket also matched her dress, and the romantic in us doesn’t want to believe that it’s a coincidence.
They left the service hand-in-hand, and will now return to Canada where (the adorable) baby Archie awaits. After their departure, the soon-to-be-ex royals will give their full attention to their non-profit organisation, which will focus on community, gender equality, youth empowerment and mental health, among other causes.
