Ever since our favourite couple, a.k.a Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were rumoured to be dating back in 2016, they’ve been met with internet trolls and bullying at the hands of British tabloids – even forcing Prince Harry to make a statement in the beginning of their relationship in an attempt to stop the criticism of his now-wife.
Unfortunately, the rumours and bullying didn’t stop, and now - in the middle of their tour of Southern Africa - Prince Harry is taking legal action after a private letter written by Meghan was published. “My wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son”, The Duke of Sussex said in a statement in which he also mentions how painful it has been to continue to put on a brave face while Meghan is being bullied and criticised.
Prince Harry also referenced his late mother Princess Diana in the statement, referring to the media frenzy that constantly surrounded her until her tragic death. He stated "I've seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."
Celebrities are praising the couple for their decision to take legal action and finally say enough is enough. It was also revealed that any legal damages that the royal couple receives will be donated to an anti-bullying charity. Here’s hoping this will put an end to the criticism and allow The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to raise their son in peace.
