Private jet loving JLo and Paris Hilton make list of top 10 celebrity 'super emitters'

Swedish academics have analysed the carbon footprints of celebrities in 2017, and compiled a list of the 10 worst offenders.

The celebrity with the worst carbon footprint is Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates who took 59 flights in 2017, travelling 213,130 miles on board his 19-seater Bombardier BD-700 jet.

Hot on his heels, Paris Hilton flew 171,346 miles by various private jets.

Jennifer Lopez came in third place with 139,520 miles, Oprah Winfrey in fourth with 83,356 miles and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in fifth with 65,888 miles.

American businesswoman Meg Whitman was sixth, followed by the late Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld who was listed in seventh place.

German footballer Andre Schurrle and web video producer Felix von der Laden took eighth and ninth places, and British actress Emma Watson who came in 10th place, flew 14 times in 2017 and travelled 42,253 miles, all on scheduled airlines.

Suddenly our couple of flights per year don't seem quite so terrible.
