Just seconds after a celebrity has been papped, the brands they’re wearing are discovered, the items tracked down, every seam scrutinised… with the item ending up in the back of our closets with the tags still on because “we just can’t pull it off as well as Kendall Jenner”.
If ever that thought has cross your mind, you’re not alone. Showing us that being stylish is not just reserved for supermodels is body positive blogger, Katie Sturino.
The sartorial queen started her blog, The 12ish Style, "to introduce girls like her who wear sizes 12-18 to fashion forward brands across extended and plus sizes."
In her photo series named #SupersizeTheLook, the New Yorker recreates iconic celebrity outfits. Unlike traditional "who wore it better" comparisons, she says that her posts are a celebration of beauty in every size.
Whether it’s Kendall Jenner or Meghan Markle, Sturino wanted to show women her size that they "can have the same style. You don't have to be that size."
#SupersizeTheLook has not only inspired her growing fanbase, but it has helped Sturino herself embrace styles she once avoided, saying that she “normally shies away from jeans, but since replicating one of Meghan Markle's recent denim-on-denim looks, she's started to work the pieces into her regular wardrobe.”
