July 1, 2019 marked a sad day for not only the U.A.E, but also the world, who lost a son, a pioneer, an activist, and a visionary. Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi of Sharjah, known as just 'Qasimi' in the fashion world, passed away on Monday. He was a polymath: a fashion designer, the chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, and a political genius who managed to explore global perceptions of the Middle East through fashion. He was raised in the U.K., where he studied at Central Saint Martins in London, and presented his first collection at just 28 years old. As a designer. he was critically acclaimed for his clean-cut, politically savvy designs that he presented at London Fashion Week; as a royal, he was looked up to as a forward-thinking catalyst of development. It is not easy to express in words what the world is left without, but our thoughts are with the family and the nation.
