This history-making Emirati athlete is up for a MAJOR international award

Now is an incredibly exciting time for Emirati female atheletes, and Emirati women in general for that matter. Among a peer group that includes record makers and breakers across sports, media, fashion and more, Zahra Lari is a force to be reckoned with.

At just 24 years old, Zahra is arguably one of the most internationally lauded athletes from the region; having made history when she became the UAE's first female figure-skater as well as the world's first figure-skater to compete wearing a hijab. Pretty impressive stuff, I'm sure you'll agree. But it doesnt end there... to say the least.

After her triumphant, pioneering appearance at the Winter Universiade in Russia, Zahra Lari went on to compete in the EduSport Trophy in Romania where she finished 8th place.

Not one to rest on her laurels, the athlete is currently training to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing; a qualification that would make her the first Emirati athlete to represent the UAE in the history of the competition. Pretty incredible.

But that's not all. Just this week it was announced that Zahra has received a nomination from the Nickelodean Kid's Choice Awards, to be held for the first time in Abu Dhabi this September. Our girl is up for the "Favourite Sports Star" trophy, one which I think we can all wholeheartedly agree she deserves to take home.

Voting is now open to the public on Nickelodeon’s website, Instagram and through the Nickelodeon Play App... So get to typing!
