It's not every day a girl gets presented with the Board of Directors' Tribute Award at the CFDAs (Council of Fashion Designers of America). And it's certainly not every day that the accolade goes to a doll. Not just any old doll, mind, but Barbie herself, the icon that Mattel gave to the world 60 years ago that has since launched sheroes - a line of Barbies created to honour a diverse cast of female role models.
"Barbie has had such a wide influence on American fashioon and culture. Her story personally resonated with so many CFDA members that the Board of Directors decided to honour her with the special tribute," Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA explained of the award that will be presented on 3 June.
